On this week’s episode of the Daily News Sports Talk Podcast we welcome baseball columnist Anthony McCarron to the show to help make sense of the bizzaro world we live in now where the Mets continue to be trade-deadline buyers while the Yankees are the sellers.
With Bombers GM Brian Cashman getting so much praise for dealing away Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller and Carlos Beltran to re-stock the farm system, we ask Anthony if Cashman also deserves heat for building a team that had the Yankees in this position to begin with.
McCarron also gives us his scouting report on the top new prospects in the organization (Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield and Gleyber Torres) and how ready the Yankee faithful are to embrace watching a bunch of youngsters at the Stadium.
We also get McCarron’s take on what the Yankees should do with A-Rod given all the speculation the slumping slugger might be handed his walking papers soon.
Switching gears, McCarron breaks down the Mets acquisition of slugging outfielder Jay Bruce and answers the question did Sandy Alderson do enough to spark the dismal offense in Flushing for the stretch drive.

Fitz is back!
In our first episode of the Daily News Sports Talk podcast after our summer hiatus, we welcome Jets columnist Manish Mehta back to the show to break down Ryan Fitzpatrick's one-year, $12 million contract.
Why did it take so long to get the deal done? How long was Fitz willing to sit on the sidelines? Can we declare a winner between the veteran quarterback and Jets GM Mike Maccagnan?
We also dive into Geno Smith's response to Fitzpatrick's return and his future with the Jets.
Other topics include what we can expect out of Darrelle Revis this year and how much new running back Matt Forte has left in the tank.
Plus, with the conclusion of the political conventions, we quiz Mehta about which members of the Jets are most likely to run for public office after their NFL careers.

After a two-week hiatus, the Daily News Sports Talk Podcast is back and better than ever.
This week we welcome Yankees beat writer - and host of the Daily News’ Yankees Podcast - Mark Feinsand to the show.
Feinsand joined the podcast Friday morning from Minneapolis where the struggling Bombers are finishing up a rare Colorado-Minnesota road trip before returning home to the Bronx on Tuesday.
This week’s podcast is much more than just Yankees talk as Feinsand weighs in on the Ichiro-Pete Rose all-time hits debate, how he will handle voting when he gets his hands on a Hall of Fame ballot for the first time this year and his best and worst (sorry, Detroit) baseball road trips.
After a detour into some NFL talk, we quiz our Yankees beat guy about ‘The Summer of Soccer’, Billy Joel concerts at the Garden and what he’d would do if we made me MLB commish for a day. And, of course, the one jersey he most regrets buying.

There's no bigger topic surrounding the defending NL champion Mets than the baffling downward spiral of Matt Harvey. The Dark Knight's pitching has fans and media alike scratching their heads.
We brought back Daily News Mets beat writer Kristie Ackert on Friday to discuss what's going on with Harvey and all the other key topics surrounding the Mets heading into Memorial Day Weekend.
Ackert weighed in on Harvey's decreased velocity, his fight to stay in the rotation and his no-show performance with the media earlier this week. She also gave us her take on what would serve Harvey best going forward.
We also spend time talking about if Steven Matz is actually benefitting from Harvey stealing the spotlight as the Long Islander quietly is putting up an Amazin' season.
Ackert filled us in on what it was like to cover Bartolo Colon's home run, how David Wright's new routine is going, if anything can slow down Yoenis Cespedes and the too-long list of injured players.
Oh, yeah, and we also talked about the '86 Mets who are being celebrated this weekend at Citi Field.

Anthony McCarron made the case earlier this week that the 1996 Yankees were better than the ‘86 Mets. Grit. Guts and Glory, he argued.
This club and this season had everything, from drama and heartache to redemption and timeless tales and over all that loomed a fiery George Steinbrenner. Great baseball, too.
Coming on the heels of our ‘That’s Debatable’ topic, we invited the Daily News’ veteran baseball reporter to the podcast to dive deeper into what made that Bombers team so special ... even likeable.
We also get McCarron’s take on whether Joe Girardi’s job is safe, what Derek Jeter’s future in baseball holds and whether A-Rod will ever get his day in the sun in Cooperstown.
We then switch gears and move across town and talk about the Mets’ current rotation concerns and the Amazin’ NL East battle with the Nationals.
Finally, McCarron gives us his take on Bryce Harper’s “Make Baseball Fun Again” campaign and talks about his concern for the future of the sport (let’s pick up the pace!).

It’s been a Giant offseason for Big Blue. Lots to talk about.
DaWith that in mind, we welcomed Daily News Giants columnist Ralph Vacchiano back to the podcast for a spooky ‘Friday the 13th’ episode.
In this week’s “Daily News Sports Talk Podcast” we ask Vacchiano to grade GM Jerry Reese’s draft-night performance after he was outmaneuvered for his top two targets, plus he gives us a scouting report on the guys they did pick: CB Eli Apple and WR Sterling Shepard.
Vacchiano also weighs in on if the Giants were smart to pass up on Laremy Tunsil and gives us his take on Big Blue’s offseason free-agent spending spree.
We also quiz the News’ Giants guy about the over-stocked roster of running backs and the fans’ panic about the right side of the offensive line.
Plus, we give you bonus talk about horror movies, the Islanders and Mets.
Bongs, gas masks, plummeting draft stock, oh my!
Daily News NFL columnist Gary Myers makes a return to the podcast this week to take a look back at the wild, bizarre NFL Draft that we witnessed last week.
Myers recaps the drama that played out with top prospect Laremy Tunsil after a compromising video of him smoking weed using a gas mask was released minutes before the start of Thursday’s draft in Chicago.
We also discuss the Jets’ head-scratching decision to draft Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg in the second round, Giants GM Jerry Reese’s performance during the draft and Jared Goff or Carson Wentz as the better NFL QB.
Myers also weighs in on what’s the scarier scenario for our society ... Donald Trump as president or the Supreme Court hearing the Deflategate case.

In a recent investigative series written by Michael O’Keeffe and the Daily News Sports I-Team, a longtime Brooklyn resident described being in her neighborhood since the arrival of the Barclays Center as “living in a shark tank.”
The News’ four-part series on the Atlantic Yards project and why the developers have failed the community on a number of fronts was the topic of a new Daily News Sports Talk Podcast.
Joining O’Keeffe in studio Friday to discuss these issues was journalist/blogger Norman Oder. Oder has written extensively about the Atlantic Yards project - now known as Pacific Park- for a variety of top publications and is currently writing on a book on the topic.
Oder and O’Keeffe share their unique insights into the “shark tank” in Brooklyn.

With lots of topics to discuss, we brought back Jets columnist Manish Mehta on Friday afternoon for a wide-ranging conversation on everything from the Mets’ Mike Piazza jersey debacle to why the NFL is too harsh on players smoking pot.
Mehta also gave us an update on the Jets’ standoff with Ryan Fitzpatrick, which player Gang Green might be eyeing with the 20th pick in the NFL Draft and his early analysis of what appears to be a brutal start to the 2016 campaign.
